Staying with Nomads

Explore the heart of Mongolia, experience its ancient culture, and discover the majestic landscapes of the Mongolian countryside. This 8-day journey will take you from the vast semi-sand dunes to serene lakes and volcanic landscapes, with a focus on the nomadic way of life. Along the way, you'll also have the opportunity to take a traditional horseback riding lesson, learning the ancient equestrian skills that are central to Mongolian culture.

Day 1.  Arrival

Pick you up from the airport transfer to Ulaanbaatar city. Please note that accommodation arrangements are to be made individually, and there will be no meal plan provided for today.

 

Day 2. Historic Sites & Cultural Heritage (B/L/D)

Early in the morning drive to the ancient capital of Kharhorin. Visit one of Mongolia's most famous monasteries, Erdene Zuu, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the museum in Kharkhorin to learn about the fascinating history of the Mongol Empire and the ancient Silk Road. Enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant. Visit Khaad Khusuu, an archaeological site with remnants of an ancient Mongolian royal residence and stelae. Explore the Orkhon Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its lush landscapes, waterfalls, and historical significance. This area is central to the history of the Mongol Empire. Enjoy a hearty Mongolian dinner. Stay with nomads where you will experience a mix of comfort and nature.

 

Day 3. Volcanic Landscapes & Lake Exploration (B/L/D)

After breakfast head to the Khorgo Volcano. Enjoy a local lunch on the way. Visit the Khorgo Volcano, an ancient volcanic crater with scenic views of the surrounding land and enjoy hiking. After the volcano, proceed to Terkh Tsagaan Lake, a serene and beautiful freshwater lake surrounded by mountains and forests. Perfect for nature walks and photography. Stop by a nomadic family and learn how they make traditional dairy products like airag (fermented mare’s milk), cheese, and yogurt. Enjoy another traditional meal with nomads, where you'll be welcomed into their home and learn more about their way of life. Overnight in a traditional ger with a local nomadic family. (spare ger for you comfort)

 

Day 4. Mountain Hiking & Ancient Sites (B/L/D)

Today we drive long, so the lunch will be on the way, a scenic lunch break during your journey. Reach the charming ViaVia Harganat Lodge area known for its peaceful surroundings and beautiful landscapes. Embark on a hike through the mountains, with views of the surrounding valleys and rivers. A perfect spot for outdoor enthusiasts and photographers. Visit Khirgesuur, a burial mound from the Bronze Age. Explore the ruins and learn about the ancient civilizations that once inhabited the area. Dinner at your accommodation. Stay overnight in a lodge, enjoying a perfect shower and more comfortable and relaxing environment.

 

Day 5. Lake Khuvsgul & Guided Horseback Riding (B/L/D)

Head to Khatgal, a peaceful town located near the shores of Lake Khuvsgul, often referred to as the "Blue Pearl" of Mongolia. Enjoy a delicious lunch in the camp. Take a boat ride on the stunning Lake Khuvsgul, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and pine forests. This is one of Mongolia's largest and most pristine lakes. In the afternoon, enjoy a horseback riding. Learn about the traditional Mongolian horse culture, which has been a part of life for centuries. A traditional Mongolian dinner, followed by some time to relax by the lake. Stay at a tourist camp near the lake, enjoying the tranquil environment.

 

Day 6. Volcano hiking (B/L/D)

Visit Uran Togoo, a volcano that offers spectacular views and hiking opportunities. Meet with a local nomadic family, where you'll experience a day in the life of a Mongolian herder. Participate in daily tasks, such as milking cows, tending to livestock, and learning about traditional crafts. Enjoy another delicious dinner with your nomadic hosts. Stay in a traditional ger and enjoy a night under the stars in the Mongolian wilderness.

 

Day 7. Return to Ulaanbaatar (B/L)

Return to Ulaanbaatar. Lunch on the Way. Enjoy lunch as you begin the return journey. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, and after the drive, you'll be dropped off at your hotel. Your tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel, where you'll be able to relax and reflect on the incredible experiences of your Mongolian adventure.

 

Day 8. Transfer to the airport

Should know

Please be informed that during your stay with a nomadic family, there will be no shower facilities available.

It would be nice if you could bring some candies to give as a gift during your visit to the nomads.

We suggest that you bring your own medication for issues such as diarrhea, colds, etc.

Airport pick and drop off service can be arranged at additional cost.
